Using modern teaching methods
Planning is considered an important matter in the educational process and its development. The teacher must know what he wants to offer to the students, but this is no longer sufficient in light of the technological progress witnessed by the era, which led to the need to reconsider the teaching methods followed, and to search for new methods based on innovation and creativity.
For this reason, there is a recent trend towards adopting modern teaching methods based on activity, which gives the learner more space to participate in the educational process, provided that the teacher is a facilitator of this process without monopolizing it. Accordingly, this type of teaching can be considered as constructive education; because it is based on enabling the learner to build skills and knowledge through effective participation in the educational process. The following are the most important characteristics of modern teaching methods:
- The learner is the focus of the educational process, and its foundation inside the classroom, or in applied laboratories.
- The educational process is based on activities and tasks distributed among students, so that students acquire the required goals through them.
- Providing the necessary materials and material means to be used in the educational process.
- Linking what the student studies with what he has previously studied and what he will study in the future, so that the educational process is an integrated and uninterrupted process. Knowledge can also be linked to the social conditions that students live in, such as: safety, security, drug abuse, climate change, and other topics.
Developing the content of curricula
Developing curricula is a means of developing the educational process at all levels, starting from the early stage and reaching the secondary stage, through the cognitive sequence that the student witnesses and the acquisition of the required skills according to the stage. This requires the presence of specialized teams to continuously develop curricula.
It is noted that there is a focus on motor skills and writing and reading skills in the early stages. As for the primary and secondary stages, academic skills such as mathematics, science, and humanities, take on importance. In addition, accuracy in developing appropriate tests that help in the evaluation process, and knowing the extent to which knowledge reaches students is also important in the process of developing the curriculum.
Attention to schools
The location of the school and the preparation of the appropriate atmosphere for studying in it are two important matters in developing the educational process and facilitating its proper progress, as they play an important role in receiving the knowledge that the student receives correctly. Care must be taken to build these schools in places far from noise, in addition to providing lighting, good ventilation, and useful facilities such as: libraries, toilets, playgrounds, spacious classrooms, and spaces for teachers and administration. Which is positively reflected in the educational process.
Good selection of teachers
The teacher is considered the basis of the educational process, which requires the availability of several qualities in him; to maintain the level of the process and the quality of its progress, and these are some of them:
Commitment
It is necessary for the teacher to feel responsible for conveying and developing knowledge, when presenting it to students.
The ability to organize
By planning the course, or the entire semester before it begins, and organizing the lessons and giving them sufficient time.
Justice
It lies in treating students equally without bias towards any group, and giving them the opportunity to make some decisions themselves.
Storytelling ability
Storytelling skill is one of the best skills that increases student participation and raises their level of interaction, which achieves high benefit from the ideas and knowledge presented regardless of the material presented
Openness
The teacher must have the skill of managing discussion, dialogue, and the ability to answer students’ questions honestly and adequately.
Innovation
The teacher must have the ability to innovate and try new things in different ways, such as: using information technology, communication and modern electronic devices.
Using modern technologies in teaching
Modern technology has provided extensive educational opportunities that students and teachers have benefited from by integrating it into classrooms and using electronic devices such as computers, smartphones, and smart digital whiteboards. Students’ interest in education has increased and their level of interaction has increased. These technologies have also helped in the growth of education in developing countries, through distance learning or by participating in advanced educational courses.
